How to Compress a PDF
- Upload a PDF file that is too large
- Choose a compression level: Standard or Maximum (also removes metadata)
- Click "Process" to compress the document
- Download your optimized PDF
Why Large PDFs are hard to email and slow to upload. Compressing reduces file size while keeping the content readable. This is especially useful for PDFs with many pages or embedded high-resolution images.
Why is my PDF so large? The usual culprits: high-resolution images and photos embedded in the document (a 10MB scan of photos), embedded fonts, and metadata left over from editing tools.
What is the difference between Standard and Maximum? Standard compresses embedded images with a quality-preserving algorithm. Maximum goes further, removes metadata and applies stronger compression โ smaller file, but very fine text or graphics may lose a little sharpness.
Can I compress a PDF below 1MB? Depends on the content. A text-only PDF is already tiny; a PDF full of photos can often be reduced by 60-80% with Maximum compression.
