Why Add a Watermark to Your PDF?

Label document status — A "DRAFT", "SAMPLE" or version label can show how you intend a copy to be handled. It does not prevent copying, forwarding or disclosure.

Brand Your Documents — Adding your company logo as a watermark is a subtle way to promote your brand every time someone views your PDF.

Track Document Versions — Label different versions with unique watermarks (e.g., "Version 2.0" or "Draft 3") to easily identify document stages.

Mark Sample or Preview Copies — A "SAMPLE" watermark can identify a preview, but it cannot ensure that a recipient will not copy, alter or use it.

Choose a PDF watermark style

Text watermark: add a short label such as "DRAFT", "SAMPLE" or a version number. Choose its color, opacity, size, rotation and page position.

Image watermark: use a logo or other image when a text label is not the right fit. Check the downloaded PDF at normal zoom to make sure the image does not obscure important content.

Keep the original PDF. A watermark can be edited, covered, removed or ignored, so do not use it as a substitute for encryption, permissions or a secure sharing method.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a watermark change my original PDF?

The download is a processed copy with a visible watermark added. Keep your original file, then open the downloaded copy to check placement and readability in your PDF viewer.

Can I remove a watermark after adding it?

A watermark can be edited, covered or removed with suitable software. Keep an original copy and do not rely on a watermark as an access-control or tamper-proofing measure.

Is there a file size limit?

PDF files up to 100MB are supported. For image watermarks, the image should be under 20MB. Supported formats: PNG, JPG, GIF, WEBP.

What's the difference between text and image watermarks?

Text watermarks use custom words (like "CONFIDENTIAL" or "DRAFT") rendered in your chosen font and color. Image watermarks let you upload a logo or graphic to overlay on your PDF pages.

Can I watermark multiple PDFs at once?

Currently, we process one file at a time. Batch watermarking is on our roadmap.

How are my uploaded files handled?

Uploaded files are sent to our server for processing. An hourly cleanup task deletes temporary working files it finds that are older than 60 minutes; delays or deletion failures may extend retention. See the Privacy Policy. The service must process the document contents; avoid uploading sensitive files unless you are comfortable with that handling.
